Where the swell meets the volcano line.

A small collection of boutique stays on Nicaragua's wild western coast — built for the long surf, the slow morning, and the country you came to find.

One coast, one collection

We keep our houses few, and our welcome wide.

OneNica is a family of boutique hotels and private rentals gathered along the beaches and back-roads of western Nicaragua — Las Peñitas, Poneloya, and the old colonial heart of León.

Each house is run by people who live here. We point you to the right break, the unmarked comedor, the night the turtles come ashore — and then we leave you to your own pace.

Things to do, and not do

The coast does the rest.

We don't run a resort programme. We run a short list of the things worth getting out of the hammock for — and we'll set every one of them up for you.

01
Year-round · all levels

Surf the empty lineups

Consistent Pacific swell, warm water, and beach breaks you'll often have to yourself. Boards, lessons, and dawn-patrol boat runs to the outer points — arranged from your door.

02
Cerro Negro · the famous one

Board a live volcano

Hike the black gravel cone of Cerro Negro, then ride it down on a board at speed — volcano boarding, the thing León is known for. We handle the gear, guide, and the 4am-optional logistics.

03
Seasonal · Aug – Dec

Walk with the turtles

On the right nights, sea turtles come ashore to nest along the reserve beaches near Las Peñitas. A quiet, guided, lights-off walk — and one of the most unforgettable things on the coast.

04
Half day · golden hour

Drift the estuary

Kayak or boat the mangrove channels of the Juan Venado estuary, then anchor for sundowners as the sky goes copper behind the volcano chain.

A coast that hasn't been tidied up yet.

Twenty minutes from a UNESCO colonial city. An hour from the most active volcano range in Central America. And in between, a stretch of Pacific beach the rest of the world hasn't quite found.

From the journal
“We came for a long weekend of surf and left having rearranged our whole idea of a holiday. The house felt like ours. The coast felt like a secret.”

Questions, answered.

What is OneNica?

OneNica is a small, locally run collection of boutique stays on the Pacific coast of León, in western Nicaragua: The Simple Beach Lodge (El Simple) and El Escondite on the beach at Las Peñitas, and Casa Mango in downtown León.

Where are the properties?

El Simple and El Escondite are beachfront in Las Peñitas, a fishing village about 20 minutes from the colonial city of León. Casa Mango is in downtown León, 3½ blocks from the Basilica Cathedral. Managua's international airport is about two hours away.

How do I book?

Each room, suite or apartment books on its own Airbnb listing, and El Simple and El Escondite have their own direct booking sites (elsimple.com and elesconditenica.com). You can also send dates through the form on any page and a real person follows up within a day.

Can I rent a whole property?

Yes. The Simple Beach Lodge can be booked as a whole lodge (all seven suites, the indoor pool and the private beach), and El Escondite can be booked as a whole house for up to sixteen guests. Casa Mango is booked as individual apartments.

What is there to do nearby?

Surfing the Las Peñitas beach breaks year-round, volcano boarding down Cerro Negro, seasonal sea-turtle nesting walks (August–December), and boat or kayak trips through the Juan Venado estuary. The colonial city of León is a short drive away.

What languages do you speak?

This site is available in English, Spanish, German, Chinese, Italian, French, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish. The hosts are local and reply in English and Spanish.
